OMAHA, Neb. – Sydney Schelkopf has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Omaha softball program in 2018-19, head coach DJ Sanchez announced Thursday.
Schelkopf was a four-year letterwinner for coach Aaron Lauby at Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan in Geneva, Neb., where she was a four-time all-conference and a three-time all-state selection. In 2017, she hit .267 with 16 RBI and 20 runs scored to earn second-team all-state accolades as the Panthers qualified for the Class C state tournament. As a junior in 2016, Schelkopf set a school record with a .553 average with nine doubles, 14 RBI and 33 runs scored. She earned first team all-state honors from the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald. As a sophomore in 2015, Schelkopf hit .543 with nine doubles and 26 RBI while earning honorable mention all-state honors.
Schelkopf also plays for the Northwest Bullets, an elite club team based in Portland. The team qualified for three straight IDT Tournaments and PGF National Championships from 2015-17.
Off the field, Schelkopf is a three-time academic all-state honoree. She also is a two-year letterwinner in basketball and track and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Sydney will be an exciting player for our program,” said Sanchez. “She is extremely versatile and plays the game hard, with a ton of passion. Sydney has competed against some of the best competition in the country, and I am excited to keep in her home state to be a Maverick.”
