KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Omaha softball team fell 8-0 to UMKC in five innings on Tuesday at the Urban Youth Softball Complex. The Mavericks are now 3-30 overall, while the Kangaroos improved to 21-15.
Bre Hunter went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run and four RBI to lead UMKC. Chyanne Onstad finished 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, while Faith Willis added a solo homer.
Starter Mia Honeland threw 2.0 innings, allowing no hits with three strikeouts and a walks. D.J. Cannon (7-5) pitched the final 3.0 innings to pick up the win.
The two teams were scoreless heading into the bottom of the third. The Kangaroos loaded the bases with two outs before Hunter cleared the bases for a 4-0 lead.
UMKC added two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a homer by Onstad. A solo home run by Willis in the bottom of the fifth ended the game due to the run rule.
Omaha returns to Summit League play this weekend with a three-game set against South Dakota. The Mavericks and Coyotes will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 starting at noon.
