OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha softball coach Amanda Rivera announced the release of the 2019 schedule on Tuesday. The Mavericks will host 12 contests at Westside Field at Westbrook.
Additionally, six of the Mavericks’ opponents participated in the 2018 NCAA tournament (Arkansas, Boston, Georgia, Houston, North Dakota State and Wisconsin).
Omaha’s home schedule features three Summit League three-game series (North Dakota, South Dakota State and Western Illinois), and three-midweek games (Creighton, Iowa State and Kansas) in March and April.
Omaha opens the 2019 slate with five road trips. The Mavericks begin their season at The Lone Star Collegiate Classic in Houston, Texas (Feb.8-10). The season opens against Wisconsin and Texas Tech on Feb. 8. On Feb. 9, UNO plays Lamar before a rematch with the Badgers. The team’s final contest of the weekend is against in-state foe Nebraska (Feb. 10).
The Mavericks head to Athens, Ga., for the Red & Black Showcase, Feb. 15-17. Omaha faces Buffalo and Georgia on the first day of the tournament. Winthrop and a rematch with the Bulldogs is set for Saturday. UNO caps the tournament with a Sunday game against Buffalo.
Omaha also travels to Conway, Ark., for the Central Arkansas Invitational (Feb. 22-23), Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational (Feb. 28-March 2) and Riverside, Calif. for the Highlander Classic (March 8-10).
Following 24 games on the road, Omaha opens its home slate March 12 against Kansas.
The Mavericks wrap up tournament play at the Billiken Spring Tournament in Saint Louis, Mo. UNO takes on Northern Illinois and host Saint Louis on the first. Omaha plays Northern Colorado and Southeast Missouri State on the second day, before ending the tournament with a rematch with SEMO.
Omaha opens a seven-game homestand on March 20 against crosstown foe Creighton. Summit League play begins March 23-24 against South Dakota State and the Mavericks host league newcomer North Dakota March 30-31 for three games.
The Mavericks hit the road for seven straight, starting with an April 2 game against UMKC in Kansas City, Mo. The Summit League road slate begins with a trip to Vermillion, S.D., for three games with USD April 6-7. UNO then heads to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a three-game series with Purdue Fort Wayne April 13-14.
Omaha returns home for a single game against Iowa State on April 24 before heading to Fargo, N.D., for a series with defending Summit League champions North Dakota State April 27-28.
The regular season ends at home with three games against Western Illinois May 3-4.
The six-team Summit League Championship takes place May 8-10 in Fargo, N.D., with the winner receiving the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals.
