Omaha falls to San Jose State and Montana

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Omaha volleyball team continued play at the Drake Invitational Friday, falling 3-1 to San Jose State (16-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-25) and 3-0 to Montana (23-25, 23-25, 19-25) at the Knapp Center. The Mavericks are now 2-7 (0-0 Summit League) on the season.

MATCH 1 — SAN JOSE STATE 3, OMAHA 1
Leaders for Omaha
In the day’s opening match, freshman Anna Blaschko led the Mavericks with 13 kills on .550 hitting with two blocks. Sophomore Chloe Dousette joined her in double figures with 12 kills, seven digs and two blocks.

Senior Sydney O’Shaughnessy had 38 assists in the match, and freshman Claire Mountjoy was credited with 12 digs. Freshman Bella Sade had a team-leading three blocks for the afternoon.

Leaders for San Jose State
San Jose State was led by 17 kills from Giulia Gavio, while Fernanda Vido added 16 and Nandyala Gama had another 15.

Team Stats
SJSU outhit Omaha .375 to .234 and also had the edge in blocks, 7-5.

MATCH 2 — MONTANA 3, OMAHA 0
Leaders for Omaha
Junior Abby Bergsten put together her best offensive performance of the season in the second match, posting a season-high 15 kills while hitting at a .343 and adding a pair of blocks. Sade matched her at the net with two more stops.

O’Shaughnessy finished with 26 assists in the match, and Mountjoy put up 14 digs.

Leaders for Montana
UM was led by 11 kills from Mykaela Hammer, and Ashley Watkins had a match-high four blocks.

Team Stats
The Grizzlies hit .211 to Omaha’s .125 and had a 5-4 advantage on the block.
