OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha baseball team completed its weekend sweep of Fort Wayne Sunday afternoon, defeating the Mastodons 12-8 at Seymour Smith Park.

Grant Suponchick led the offensive charge, finishing 3-for-5 on a single, a double and a triple with a run scored and five RBI. Braden Rogers joined him with three more hits as part of a 3-for-4 day, scoring three times and driving in another run.

The win went to Andrew Brighton (1-1), as he threw 2.2 innings of relief and allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout and no walks. The loss went to Chase Phelps (0-1), who surrendered five runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 1.0 inning out of the pen.
The Mavericks found themselves down 1-0 after Fort Wayne struck first in the top of the first but regained composure in the second to take the lead. Rogers led off with a single to left and advanced on a Tyler Daugherty sacrifice bunt, and Ben Palensky walked to put runners on the corners. Adam Caniglia then doubled to right to score Rogers, tying the game at 1-1. Palensky came in on an RBI groundout by Max Gamm, putting the Mavericks on top, 2-1.
Omaha added to its lead in the fourth with three runs on one out. Palensky led off by being plunked by the first pitch he saw, Caniglia drew a full-count walk, and both runners moved into scoring position on a Gamm sacrifice bunt. DeBonville later worked another 3-2 walk, and a double down the left field line by Suponchick cleared the bases for a 5-1 Maverick advantage.
Fort Wayne, however, battled back in the fifth with a six-run, five-hit frame to regain the lead, 7-5.
The Mavericks responded immediately in the bottom half of the fifth, getting back five runs to go ahead by three. Omaha loaded the bases with walks from Rogers and Palensky plus a Caniglia hit-by-pitch, and Gamm drew another walk to score Rogers. DeBonville later drilled a two-out double down the left field line to cross Caniglia and Palensky, and Suponchick added a two-run triple to the right field corner to plate DeBonville and Gamm for a 10-7 lead.
Omaha added another run in the sixth, capitalizing on a Mastodon error in the field to score Rogers at 11-7.
Fort Wayne got a run back in the seventh with an RBI single, but the Mavericks added their final run in the seventh with an RBI single to left by Rogers that scored Suponchick to make it 12-8 for the final tally.
Omaha returns to action this weekend, welcoming preseason Summit League favorite Oral Roberts to Seymour Smith Park for a three-game series, March 23-25. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m., followed by 2 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.
