OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head baseball coach Evan Porterannounced the signing of Kirby Pieri to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2020 season on Thursday.
“We first saw Kirby during his sophomore season at Coon Rapids,” said Porter. “He is an outstanding competitor who brings passion and energy to everything he does. He’s an excellent defender behind the plate and has a high baseball IQ. We are thrilled to have Kirby join our baseball family.”

Pieri hails from Coon Rapids, Minn., where he will join the Mavericks out of Coon Rapids High School. With his senior season just ahead, Pieri is coming off a junior season where he won a sub-state championship and helped his American Legion team advance to the sectional quarterfinals. Individually, he earned all-section and all-conference honors.
As a sophomore, his team advanced to the sub-state finals for Legion ball and he also helped his high school team to the sectional semifinals during the spring season. During his sophomore campaign, he also earned his team’s Rookie of the Year honor.
Pieri played Legion ball for the Minnesota Millers under head coach Kevin Kirwold, and his team went 20-4 in 2018. The catcher is also coming off a 2018 summer season where he batted .368 with 32 hits, 22 runs and 17 RBI. In their final tournament of the season in Las Vegas, Pieri’s team went 7-0 and won the Desert Fall Classic, becoming the first Minnesota team to do so. He also is a two-time letterwinner in ice hockey at Coon Rapids.
