Omaha Baseball drops series finale at Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Omaha baseball team dropped its final game of the series, 8-6, against Seattle Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks walk away from the series with a split, as both teams each won two games over the weekend. Omaha now falls to 3-4 this season.

Brett Bonar went 2-for-4 with three RBI, a run and a double. Jack Lombardiand Keil Krumwiede also tallied an RBI on the afternoon.

On the mound, starter Spencer Koelewyn pitched 4.0 innings, tallied seven strikeouts and allowed just two walks. Jacob Mohler earned the loss (0-1) while Seattle’s Alden Huschle had three strikeouts with no walks for the win (1-0). Tyler Yeh earned the save in the final inning.

Seattle took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Two Maverick runs in the top of the third by a Lombardi ground out for an RBI and a DeBonville single RBI put them ahead. The Omaha lead increased to 5-1 in the top of the fifth when Bonar doubled own the left field line for a pair of RBI, followed by a Krumwiede single for an RBI. Seattle, however, cut the Mavericks’ lead at 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer and a single RBI.

Another Bonar run off a single put Omaha back up by two (6-4) in the top of the seventh, but the Redhawks rallied back and scored four runs in the final two innings to secure the win. A single in the bottom of the seventh and a double for three RBI an inning later gave the Redhawks the two-run victory.

The Mavericks now have four days off before they continue the road slate. Omaha heads to Savannah, Ga., for a three-game series at Savannah State Friday, March 1, through Sunday, March 3.
