COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – Iowa Western Community College defeated Northeast Community College in women’s soccer here today, 4-0.
Hawks Coach Chad Miller said losing 4-0 to the Reivers, currently the seventh ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I rankings, was not too disappointing. “The first half we did not play well at all. A lot of that credit goes to Iowa Western. But we just didn’t move well or pass well. We were well off our game.”
By halftime, Iowa Western had scored three of their four goals for the game. “In the second half we were able to get some things fixed and put together some passes, along with playing much more organized,” said Miller.
The Reivers also outshot Northeast, 15-0. “I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get at least one shot on goal, but Iowa Western hasn’t conceded a goal all year so far,” said Miller. “We have to look at this as a building block and how can we can improve from this.”
Hawks goalkeeper Kaitlyn Van Surksum had 11 saves.
Northeast returns to action on Friday, when they face Barton Community College at 2 p.m. in Great Bend, KS.
