COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb.) recorded her fourth straight double-double, but the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team was defeated 78-56 Wednesday night by Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Hawks (7-13, 4-6 ICCAC) battled hard in the ICAAC contest, and they only trailed 18-16 at the end of the first quarter in what was an early defensive struggle. Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) nailed a three-point shot at the end of the half to put the score at 44-28.
The Reivers would pull away in the second half, but not without multiple Hawks filling the stat sheet.
Hassett totaled 27 points and 11 rebounds while Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) added 12 points. Maxon had 11 points and seven boards.
Points off turnovers were where the Hawks thrived as they were able to put in 12 points off the Reivers 12 turnovers.
The Hawks will head home to face No. 2 Kirkwood Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
