Northeast softball sweeps North Platte

NORFOLK, NE – The Northeast Community College softball team has earned its second sweep in a row after defeating North Platte Community College here Sunday. The Hawks defeated the Knights, 11-1 and 6-3.

In game one, Savannah Robertson (3-for-4) had two runs, a double and two RBIs. Alayna Allen (2-for-3) had one run, and Rosario Garcia (3-for-3) had a run, double and two RBIs. Allen (2-1) took the win with three hits allowed, six strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

The second game saw Robertson (2-for-3) totaling three runs. Jade Long (3-for-4) had two runs, a triple and an RBI. Allen finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs; Shyanne Sutton (2-for-3), a double. Moriah Payton (6-3) earned the win from six hits allowed, five strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.

Hawks Coach Iris Woodhead said she saw many great things in the wins.

“Alayna and Moriah were stellar on the mound, and our hitters looked great. We had a few errors in game two that were routine ground balls but that was a lack of focus on our fundamentals. We play very well when we focus on our fundamentals. The girls are working hard and playing well.”

Northeast (10-10) will travel to Columbus on Tuesday to face Central Community College in a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.
