ROSEMOUNT, MN – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team traveled to Minnesota on Wednesday to face Dakota County Technical College (DCTC). The Hawks dropped the match, 2-1.

Although the game was close, Northeast Coach Doug Seigle was disappointed in his team’s performance. “I thought we came out very flat to start the game with too many mistakes.”

DCTC’s Ahmed Ahmed scored on a penalty kick in the 31st minute of the game. One minute later, Northeast’s Daniel Isaza netted a goal on another penalty kick, tying the game at the half.

The second half was played fairly evenly until Ahmed scored on yet another penalty kick in the 75th minute.

“Although we continued to fight, we just ran out of time and continue to struggle with our shooting,” said Seigle. “We could complain about the long trip, multiple games or the questionable calls against us, but in reality, they are just excuses. We have to play better if we expect to win these close games. We let one get away from us today.”

Northeast outshot DCTC 9-7, but the Blue Knights had more shots on goal, with five to Northeast’s four. Troy Elliott recorded three saves for the Hawks.

Northeast (3-11) travels to Mason City, Iowa, on Saturday to face North Iowa Area Community College. Game time is 2 p.m.
