Northeast loses to Kirkwood and Indian Hills

OTTUMWA, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled to Iowa for a pair of matchups on Wednesday and Thursday. The Hawks fell to No. 7 Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday by a final score of 3-1 in four sets and dropped their game Thursday afternoon to NJCAA Division I No. 2 Indian Hills Community College by a final score of 3-0 in three sets.

The Hawks (10-8) only dropped their three sets to the Eagles by a combined seven points. The Warriors proved to be a tough test, but the Hawks will hope to lean on the experienced gained in the showdown down the road.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head volleyball coach Amanda Schultze on her team competing to the end with Kirkwood:

“We got off to a slow start, but that didn’t stop us,” Schultze said. “We kept fighting and didn’t give up.”

Schultze on what she wants her team to take from playing two very competitive teams:

“I hope they learned that these types of teams can make us better,” Schultze said. “It’s fun to be challenged and I hope they realized that after those first couple of sets.”

Schultze on how see wants her team to spend their small break before their next live action:

“We need to work on defense and our setters putting the ball away,” Schultze said. “We will work hard at doing the little things and staying disciplined.”

The Hawks will have a few days of rest before their next game against Iowa Lakes Community College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Estherville, Iowa.
