MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back in Mason City, Iowa Monday for a doubleheader with North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks triumphed in Game 1 by a final score of 11-0 before falling in Game 2 by a final score of 10-6 in 10 innings.
Northeast (31-14, 15-8 ICCAC) took care of business quickly in Game 1 as they downed the Trojans in just five frames. Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) mowed down the NIACC lineup on the mound as he allowed just one hit and struck out five batters in five innings on the hill. Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) launched his fourth home run in the last five games as the Hawks took the commanding victory.
Game 2 started with a bang as Kaden Young (Columbus, Neb.) blasted a homer in the top of the first frame. Northeast trailed 6-4 entering the eighth inning and rallied to plate two runs off of errors from the Trojans. The showdown moved to extra innings where NIACC ultimately prevailed.
