Jared Stark, Vice President of Enrollment and Athletics, has announced the hiring of Crystal Nething as the new head volleyball coach.

“Coach Nething is no stranger to York College or the volleyball program. She was a two sport athlete here, playing both volleyball and basketball. She has a passion for coaching, and is very capable of leading our program,” said Stark.

“I am beyond excited and blessed to be added to the York College athletic family,” said Nething. “I have had so many great coaches and opportunities in athletics, especially here at York, that it means so much to have the trust and faith to lead this program. I believe that the mission of York College is at the core of what I want to bring to this team. My goal is to change the culture of the program and instill in these young women the drive and hard work that it takes for success on and off of the court.”

Nething helped re-establish the volleyball program as a player during her student years. After the program was suspended in 2000, Nething was the lone senior that helped the Panthers to a winning season in their first year back in 2004. A dual sport athlete out of Montrose, Colorado, Nething was ecstatic to help restart the program. Now she will have that chance again, this time as the head coach.

“Nething is surrounded by great coaches, and knows what a healthy program looks like. She is high energy and relationship-driven, and has an education background. She will begin immediately building relationships with the current team and seek to add more pieces over the summer that are necessary for York College to build towards the top of the KCAC,” Stark commented.

“The search committee sought to find a new coach who could do the following things: first, support our mission as a Christ-centered institution, second, build relationships with current players and prospective students, and third to teach the game of volleyball in a dynamic way that creates a successful program. We believe we have found that,” Stark added. “As a committee we wanted a coach who would invest here–someone heavily devoted to York College and making this a program that can be an example for others to follow.”

Nething says her immediate goal is to reach out to the current members and then get on the recruiting trail right away. Nething is married to Josh Nething ’04, assistant coach of the Track and Field program and academic success coach. The couple have three sons.
