Morningside Softball splits Doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Junior Ashton Whited (JR/Elkhorn, NE) (Elkhorn, Neb.) crushed a home run and drove in four, and sophomore Carson Cameron (SO/Herman, NE) (Herman, Neb.) and freshman Ellie Cropley (FR/Sioux City, IA) (Sioux City,) each registered three hits, guiding Morningside College to a game one Great Plains Athletic Conference win Saturday, March 30.

The Mustangs’ 13-1, six-inning roll over Dakota Wesleyan University at Presentation College’s Dome was also spotlighted by a complete-game pitching effort from senior Hallie Misiaszek(SR/Mitchell, SD) (Mitchell, S.D.). Improving to 6-2 with her seventh complete game outing, she limited the Tigers to two hits while striking out four.

Head coach Jessica Jones Sitzmann’s squad, seeking a league doubleheader sweep, was thwarted by DWU in game two. Opposing hurler Sierra Haage struck out 10 Mside hitters, while Dakota Wesleyan posted a three-run third inning in route to a 3-2 decision. Junior Mackenzie Lose(JR/Indianola, IA) posted three hits including a triple and drove in a run to lead the Mustangs.

Morningside opens its 2019 home schedule Tuesday, April 2, taking on North Star Athletic Association foe Dakota State University. First pitch is 3 p.m.
