Midland women’s soccer wins big

OMAHA, Neb. – A trio of Warriors accounted for all the Midland University scoring on Tuesday night in a 5-0 victory at Grace University. The high-powered Midland offense already has 29 goals on the year, matching the 2015 team’s season total.

Mackenzie Fletcher and Nayeli Rodriguez each scored twice while Kalynn Batterton recorded a goal and assist.

“It was good to get a lot of girls playing time in this game,” said head coach Greg Jarosik. “Hannah Stewart and Marley Farrell controlled the midfield well tonight, and Erica Hall and Harlee Zancanelli made it a comfortable night defensively to help preserve the shutout.”

Rodriguez, the rookie sensation, scored the first two goals of the contest, cuing the route by the visiting team. The San Diego, California native scored at the 10 and 20-minut marks, respectively. Fletcher proceeded to stretch the Midland lead to 4-0 prior to halftime. Her second goal was assisted by Batterton in the 37th minute.

Batterton netted the final score of the game, an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to ice the Warrior triumph.

Jordan Thiem was perfect in goal for Midland, recording six saves on six attempts. The Warriors owned a 28-8 shot advantage in the match. Midland put 13 of those shots on target.

Rodriguez padded her GPAC-leading totals on Tuesday in points (25) and goals (10) for the season.

Midland has won three of its last four games and improves to 5-2 on the year.

The Warriors wrap up their non-conference schedule on Saturday against Friends University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont.
