FREMONT, Neb. – (RV) Midland University women’s soccer scored its fifth straight victory on Wednesday night at Heedum Field in a 4-1 decision over College of Saint Mary.
Freshman Nayeli Rodriguez notched her second hat trick of the season, tying the Lady Warriors’ single-season record with her 14th goal.
“We continue to control the ball offensively really well and limit our opponent’s chances thanks to our back line’s solid play,” said head coach Greg Jarosik. “Obviously, Nayeli has made a huge impact for us offensively, and we’re proud of her accomplishments to date. We’ll build upon this win and continue to work hard as we progress through our conference schedule.”
Rodriguez broke the scoring seal in the 13th minute of action off an assist fromHannah Stewart. The freshman found the back of the net again in the 28th minute to stretch Midland’s lead to 2-0. Courtney Tjards assisted on the goal.
Rodriguez completed her hat trick on a header in the box in the 82nd minute. A similar shot by the freshman was denied a few minutes earlier by the CSM keeper.Allison Buehring assisted on the record-tying goal.
The Flames recorded their lone goal of the night in the 83rd minute beforeJordan Thiem and the Warrior defense held down CSM for the final seven minutes of play. Theim recorded one save on two attempts.
Midland owned a decisive 28-6 shot advantage in the contest.
The Warriors improve to 8-2 (2-0 GPAC) this season and now have a +24 goal differential on the season against NAIA opponents. CSM falls to 4-6 (1-2 GPAC) with the loss.
Midland continues conference action on Saturday at Northwestern College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa.
