FREMONT, Neb. – No. 4 Midland University picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday night as they hosted Peru State College in front a crowd of over 1,800 fans at the Wikert Event Center. The Warriors, who had returned from a tough trip last weekend when they went 0-3 to start the season found their groove early on.
Priscilla O’Dowd led a balanced attack as the Warriors hit .290 on the night. O’Dowd led the team with 10 kills but had plenty of help as five others finished with four or more kills. Fellow junior Jessica Peters and freshman Sydney Morehouse had eight and seven kills respectively for Midland.
“I thought the girls had a great turnaround after the tough weekend to open the season,” stated coach Paul Giesselmann. “I liked the improved play from them tonight against a really good opponent. Our team defense was much better and we had some of our servers go on some long runs.”
Midland’s sweep of the Bobcats marks their third straight win, and sweep, over their nearby neighbors of the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Lady Warriors will look to continue their winning ways as they hit the road to Chicago to play in the SXU/TCC Crossover Tournament this weekend. Their first match of the two day tournament is Friday at 4:00 p.m. as they take on Saint Xavier University.
