Lopers Win Again

Kearney, Neb. – The fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team used 15 different players to sweep Southern New Hampshire (-3, -7, -15) Thursday night in Manchester, N.H. The Lopers (9-0) remain unbeaten and have now won 22 consecutive sets. The Penmen, meanwhile, fall to 2-10. This was SNHU’s third match in three days and they mustered just 25 points in the match. That is the second fewest by a Loper opponent in the 25-point rally scoring era (since 2008), trailing only the 23 points Chadron State tallied in a 2013 loss in the Health & Sports Center. Next, the three points scored in the first set in the second fewest by a Loper opponent. Back in 2012, Southwest Baptist dropped the first set to UNK by a 25-2 score.

All 15 healthy and non-redshirting Lopers appeared in the match with 12 recording a kill, 10 digging a ball and seven registering a block assist. UNK hit a season-high .463, having 41 kills in 80 swings with only four errors. The percentage is the ninth highest in school history. True freshman outside hitters Julianne Jackson (eight) and Allison Kuenle (seven) led the way, combining for 15 kills and just one attack error in 32 attempts. Topping that was Ogallala sophomore outside Kendal Schroer, who had six kills in six swings. Finally on offense, Colorado junior outside Ali Scheil had five kills in nine attempts while also blocking three balls. Kuenle and fellow North Platte freshman Josie Cox also recorded three block assists. In the backrow, Minden sophomore Morgan Stute was the libero in the third set and recorded a match high 15 digs. UNK plays American International College (11:00 a.m. Central) and Merrimack College (5:00 p.m.) Friday in Massachusetts.
