LEXINGTON – It was a good start to the season for Lexington Basketball as the girls knocked off Gothenburg 39-30 and the boys blew out the Swedes 74-35.

Freshman Sarah Treffer had a nice debut to her high school career leading the way for the Minutemaids with 11 points. She was the only Maid in double figures as the team struggled with fouls all game.  Courtney Hansen scored seven points and Madi Sutton and Jenna Sanchez finished with six points.

Gothenburg took their only lead of the game right before halftime after a three pointer by Marley Kennicut and a two point field goal from Annica Harm.  The Minutemaids then went to a 2-3 zone and shut down the Swede offense after that only allowing 13 points in the second half.

Harm was the leading scorer for Gothenburg with 11 points.

Expectations are high for the Lexington Boys this season after a nice season last year and the bulk of the scoring coming back. The Minutemen met expectations in the opener taking it to the Gothenburg Swedes 74-35.

Dylan Richman led all scoring with 23 points including 19 in the first half. Caleb Carpenter chipped in 17 points including three, three-pointers.

Lexington had a 16-9 lead after one quarter then exploded in the second to increase their lead to 20 points at 41-21 then extended their lead to 65-26 after the third quarter.

Mason Mendell led Gothenburg, coming off the bench, with seven points. Maguire Bartlett and Jordan Rossell each had six.
