Here’s the rundown of the weekend that was on the legion baseball scene.
Saturday: Zephyrs 4, Lexington 1…Gunnar Buckhammer picked up the win on the mound going 6 1/3 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts. Trevor Garcia and Evan Hughes each picked up a pair of hits while Chase Lovercheck drove in a pair of runs.
Saturday: Zephyrs 9, Lexington 7…Trent Richter posted his third straight win on the hill, allowing five earned runs over six innings with 10 more strikeouts. He’s been really good of late. A.J. Castillo-Powell the save in the 7th. Garcia had two more hits with a RBI and a run scored. Brady Sindt drove in two and scored twice.
Sunday: Zephyrs 12, Buckley 10…The Zephyrs posted five run innings in the first and third innings on their way to 16 hits and a third straight win. Sindt went 3-4 and was on base four times hitting out of the lead off spot, he drove in two and scored two runs. Carlos Felix was 4-5 right behind Sindt in the lineup. Garcia struck out 9 and allowed 8 earned runs in picking up the pitching win.
Sunday: Zephyrs 7, Buckley 5…Braden Lofink led the way at the plate with a 2-4 game that included two RBI and a run scored. Trent Richter also drove in a pair of runs for the Z’s offense that averaged 8 runs per game over the weekend. Lofink also was the winning pitcher, striking out five hitters in two plus innings of work as the second reliever out of the bullpen.
- Westco has their record at 9-10 and they’ll travel east this week with games at Kearney at Thursday, Bellevue East on Friday, and Papillion Lavista South on Saturday.
Gering Platte Valley Companies Seniors
The Gering Seniors had the weekend off and they’ll play a doubleheader tonight in Chappell against the Buckley Bombers starting at 5 p.m.
Gering B&C Steel Juniors
B&C Steel went 2-1 hosting their tournament at Oregon Trail Park. After earning a 10-2 win over Kimball and a 5-2 win over Fort Morgan, Colorado on Saturday, Gering dropped their Sunday morning game to Buckley by the final of 6-1. The loss snapped a six game winning streak and on the season the Gering Juniors are still an impressive 15-2.
- B&C Steel will play in North Platte on Wednesday as part of a JR/SR doubleheader.
It was the Robinson Electric Tournament at Cleveland Field in Scottsbluff this past weekend for the Westco Jr’s, who finished up their four games at 1-3. They dropped games on Saturday to Casper, 12-2, and Mullen, Colorado, 14-9. Then on Sunday they started they day losing to Mullen again, this time 20-0. The Express were able to close out the weekend with a 8-7 win over Bridgeport.
- at 6-10 on the season the Express will be in action next on Tuesday night when they play a doubleheader at Torrington starting at 5 p.m.
