Kearney Catholic Hires Softball Coach

Kearney Catholic Hires Softball Coach

Kearney Catholic High has announced that Russ Hiemstra has been hired as the inaugural Head Coach of the Stars’ softball program which will begin play in the 2018-19 school year. Hiemstra had an outstanding career as a baseball and as a softball player. He played collegiately at Southwestern Community College in Iowa and at Kearney State College. He is a veteran fast pitch softball player having competed throughout the State and in the World Fastpitch Softball tournament.

In addition, Hiemstra is a veteran baseball coach having coached at the USSSA level (two state championships) and the legion level as well. He is currently the head coach of the Jerseys Sports Grill Senior Team. The school also hired John Hastings as the assistant coach. Coach Hastings has also had a successful baseball career which has carried over to the softball diamond. He has had a number of years of head coaching experience with the “Flames of Nebraska” softball program and will be a valuable asset to the program.
