WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The third-ranked Iowa women’s basketball team earned another Big Ten victory on Wednesday night, defeating Purdue, 96-71, inside a sold-out Mackey Arena. Iowa improved to 16-1 this season and 5-0 in conference play.
All-American Caitlin Clark recorded back-to-back triple doubles leading scoring with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. It was her fourth this season and 15th career triple-double.
Four other Hawkeyes recorded double digit points against the Boilermakers. Kate Martin neared a double-double, scoring 15 points and eight rebounds, while Sydney Affolter ended with 14 points and six rebounds. Gabbie Marshall sank four 3-pointers for the Hawkeyes, contributing 12 points, and Hannah Stuelke finished with 10 points.
Despite a 9-0 Purdue run early in the first quarter, Clark drilled three triples in the first quarter to aid the Hawkeyes to a 29-18 lead after the first period. The Hawkeyes shot 61.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line in the first half, outscoring the Boilermakers 51-37 going into halftime.
It was more of the same for the Hawkeyes the rest of the way, as Iowa led the entirety of the second half. Purdue went on a five-point run at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but the Hawkeyes finished strong, closing out the game on a 9-0 run. Iowa outrebounded Purdue 23-12 in the second half.
