IRVING, Texas – Junior guard Bridget Carleton and freshman guard Madison Wise captured Big 12 weekly honors, the league announced Monday. Carleton was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week and Wise earned Freshman of the Week.
The award is Carleton’s ninth Big 12 weekly honor, and puts her 11th in the Big 12 record book in honors earned and first in the Iowa State record book. She earned Freshman of the Week five times in 2015-16 and Player of the Week twice as a sophomore in 2016-17 in addition to two this season. Wise on the other hand, grabbed her first Big 12 honor.
Carleton put together one of the best week’s in her career, averaging 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor and 46.1 percent from long range. The junior was unstoppable in ISU’s two road games against Drake and Vanderbilt, netting 19 points and dishing a team-high five dimes while grabbing seven rebounds. Against the Commodores, she tallied a game-high 30 points, her fourth career 30-point outing and first of the season. Carleton went 10-of-21 from the floor and shot a blistering 4-of-7 from long range. Carleton also tacked on eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, stuffing the stat sheet.
Wise was a big contributor for the Cyclones on the week, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and going 5-of-10 from long range. Wise shined at Vanderbilt, netting 14 points for Iowa State and grabbing three rebounds, while going 5-of-7 from the field. Against the Bulldogs, she tallied eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
Iowa State is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. when it takes on Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series
