AMES, Iowa – The 2016-17 Iowa State wrestling slate has been announced. The Cyclones, who posted a 10-6 mark in 2015-16, will wrestle in 13 duals, and three regular-season varsity tournaments. Five of the team’s 13 duals will take place in Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones have scheduled seven of the nine other Big 12 and Big 12 affiliate programs for dual competition in 2016-17.
The Cardinal and Gold will kick off the year with a trip to the Dakotas. They will take on South Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 4 and then turn around to dual the Bison of North Dakota State on Nov. 6.
The Cyclones will return home on Nov. 13 for the annual Harold Nichols Cyclone Open. To close out November, the team heads out West to dual newly-added Big 12 opponents, Northern Colorado (Nov. 26) and Wyoming (Nov. 27).
The month of December marks the annual Cy-Hawk match-up with Iowa (Dec. 10) in Iowa City. The in-state bout is sandwiched between two major midseason tournaments. ISU will head out to Las Vegas on Dec. 2-3 for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and finish the month at the Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30.
January will feature four home duals for the Cyclones. Arizona State comes to town on Jan. 6 for the bi-annual Beauty and the Beast event. Iowa State will make their lone road trip of the month, traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on the Tar Heels of North Carolina on Jan. 14. They will then play host to Northern Iowa on Jan. 20, Oklahoma on Jan. 27 and Oklahoma State on Jan. 29.
ISU closes out the dual portion of their schedule in February. They’ll make their final road trip of the season, where they will face Pittsburgh on Feb. 10 and West Virginia on Feb. 12. Minnesota will come in to Hilton Coliseum on Feb. 19 for the final dual of the regular season.
The postseason begins on March 4-5 as the Cyclones venture to Tulsa, Okla. for the 2017 Big 12 Championship. The 2017 NCAA Championship returns to St. Louis this season on March 16-18.
