Iowa State Volleyball sweeps TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – Iowa State (16-7, 7-5 Big 12) swept TCU (13-12, 6-8 Big 12) by set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 Saturday night. Iowa State now leads to all-time TCU series 20-4 overall and 10-3 at Fort Worth.

Maya Duckworth and Nayeli Gonzalez went out to their second straight double figure kill performance, with Duckworth slamming down 13 and Gonzalez 12. Duckworth achieved her total while hitting at an efficiency of .407 while Gonzalez hit at .240. As a team, Iowa State hit at .314 to solidify the eighth overall and fifth conference match to hit over .300.

Jordan Hopp again shined with her defense, putting up one solo and four block assists for five total. The Cyclones once again out-blocked TCU, putting up 7.0 compared to the Horned Frogs’ 5.0.

SET ONE

TCU hit four straight attack errors aiding in the Cyclones taking a 5-0 run to lead 11-6 before TCU called their first timeout. Two straight Cyclone blocks then brought the advantage to 16-9, and sparked another scoring spree to stretch the lead to double digits (20-9). The Cyclones continued to roll in the set, taking it 25-14 on a Hopp kill.

SET TWO

The second set proved to be a closer one with both teams tying each other deep into the set while hitting over .300 at a tie of 18-18. Gonzalez matched Hopp and Duckworth with six kills to bring ISU to set point (24-21), going on to hit another to end the second ahead 25-22. The Cyclones hit 17 kills at .424 in the set alone.

SET THREE

Three kills by Duckworth gave Iowa State three of its first four points as TCU held the narrow lead of 5-4. Duckworth would go on to enter double figures with her 10th kill to knot the score at 10s. Gonzalez followed to also notch her second straight double-figure kill performance to give ISU a lead of 15-14. Lilly Wachholz gave ISU a lead of 20-18 as she found the floor for her sixth kill. TCU would tie things at 23, but back to back kills by Wachholz sealed the sweep.

NEXT UP

Iowa State returns home to host No. 14 Kansas for a series taking place Friday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.
