Iowa State Releases 2019 Softball Schedule

Iowa State Releases 2019 Softball Schedule

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State softball program released its 2019 schedule on Wednesday, featuring an exciting home slate of 18 contests at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Iowa State will play four of its six Big 12 series in Ames.

The Cyclones will play an exceptionally strong slate, as 22 of their 56 regular season games will be against teams that appeared in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. ISU will get to play an additional Big 12 series at home this season after its 2018 series vs. Oklahoma was moved from Ames to Norman, Okla., due to weather.

“Having an extra home series on the Big 12 slate will be great, both for us and for the fans,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “What I’m most happy about is that we’re up close to 20 home games. Adding Georgia Tech to the schedule will be a good ACC-Big 12 battle to add to the home schedule. I’m really looking forward to playing more games in front of our fans this season.”

Iowa State opens the year with 32 consecutive games away from home, including six tournaments on the road, spanning four different states. The action starts in Tallahasee, Fla., where the Cyclones will play five games at a tournament (Feb. 8-10) hosted by defending national champion Florida State. ISU will face the Seminoles twice during the weekend. Up next is the first of three trips to the west coast, with a tournament at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. (Feb. 15-17).

The Cyclones then head back east for a four-game tournament at College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. (Feb. 22-24). ISU opens the month of March in Phoenix, Ariz. for a tournament hosted by Grand Canyon (March 1-3). Iowa State’s final two non-conference tournaments are returns to the state of California, at Cal Poly (March 8-10) and at Cal State Fullerton (March 15-17).

Big 12 play opens the following weekend, as Iowa State travels to Austin, Texas for a three-game series against 2018 NCAA qualifier Texas, March 22-24. Iowa State fans will get their first opportunity to see the Cyclones play at home when they battle Texas Tech in a three-game series, March 29-31.

Softball will resume at the Cyclone Sports Complex later that week, with mid-week contests vs. South Dakota (April 2) and Drake (April 3). ISU will then welcome Georgia Tech to Ames, where the Cyclones and Yellow Jackets will play a three-game series over the weekend (April 6-7). Iowa State battles Iowa in Iowa City the ensuing week on April 10.

The Cyclones return to Big 12 action with a home series vs. Oklahoma (April 12-14), followed by another in-state battle against UNI on April 16. Road trips to Baylor (April 18-20) and Nebraska-Omaha (April 24), precede the Cyclones’ home series vs. Oklahoma (April 26-28).

Iowa State closes the regular season with a mid-week contest at Drake (May 1), before its final home series vs. Kansas (May 3-5)

This will mark the third consecutive season with a Big 12 Softball Championship. The tournament, which was reinstated in 2017, will return to Oklahoma City, Okla., May 10-11, at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex, also home to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
