Iowa State Men cruise past NDSU

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s basketball team (7-1, 0-0 Big 12) scored an 81-59 victory over North Dakota State (2-7, 0-0 Summit) on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones were paced by senior guard Marial Shayok, who scored 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.

How It Happened
The Cyclones set the tone early, going on a 14-2 run to take a 18-6 lead with 11:48 to play in the first half. Michael Jacobson was critical to the fast start, scoring seven points in during the run, while totaling eight points and eight rebounds in the first half.

NDSU clawed back to cut the ISU lead to single digits on a 3-pointer by Chris Quayle with 3:54 to play in the half, but it was all Cyclones from that point forward. Iowa State closed the stanza on an 8-0 run to lead 43-27 at the intermission. Marial Shayok led the way with 12 points and three assists in the first 20 minutes, while Iowa State shot 54.5 percent from the field.

Iowa State emerged from the halftime locker room and picked up right where it left off, ripping off yet another 8-0 run to open the period. A pair of Jacobson free throws extended the Cyclone lead to 51-27 as ISU took control. The lead ballooned to 33 midway through the second half on a Terrence Lewis bucket before the Bison went on a 19-2 run of their own, making four triples during the stretch.

Shayok had a team-high eight points in the second half, as Iowa State notched its fourth consecutive win. Jacobson and Tyrese Haliburton each scored seven in the second stanza.

Players of Note
Marial Shayok led the Cyclones in scoring once again with 20 points, going 9-of-15 from the field with three assists and three steals.

Michael Jacobson put up a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Jacobson pulled down four offensive boards on the night.

Nick Weiler-Babb scored 11 points shooting 4-of-4 from the field, to go with eight rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of action.
