Iowa State announces 2019 Volleyball Schedule

AMES, Iowa – Another challenging slate of matches awaits the Iowa State volleyball team in 2019 as head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch announced the Cyclones’ schedule for the upcoming season ENTER DAY OF WEEK. Iowa State’s schedule features 12 home matches, highlighted by a Sept. 6 visit from Penn State. The Cyclones will play eight matches against teams who made the 2018 NCAA Volleyball Championships.

For the first time since 2013, Iowa State will open its season away from Ames and Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones open 2019 at Ole Miss and the Rebel Invitational, where the Cyclones will take UCF (Aug. 30) and the host Rebels (Aug. 31).

ISU follows that with a run of four home matches. The first home match of 2019 will see the Cyclones take on South Dakota on Tuesday, Sept. 3 against South Dakota. ISU will then host its home tournament, starting with a Friday, Sept. 6 showdown against Penn State. This will be the first time the Cyclones and Nittany Lions have met during Johnson-Lynch’s tenure as head coach. The three-team tournament will then see ISU take on LSU on Sunday, Sept. 8. Another mid-week match comes up on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when Iowa State renews its in-state rivalry with UNI.

The final two weeks of non-conference sees ISU on the road, as the Cyclones will head to Appalachian State for matches against Western Carolina and the host Mountaineers (Sept. 13) and North Carolina State (Sept. 14). The next week, it will be off to Iowa City where the Cyclones will take on Lipscomb (Sept. 19), Coastal Carolina (Sept. 20) and the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting with Iowa (Sept. 21).

The conference schedule opens on Sept. 25 at Texas, with Iowa State’s first Big 12 home match coming on Oct. 2 against Kansas. The Cyclones will have five of their eight Big 12 home matches in October, capping it off with a Homecoming weekend match against Kansas State on Oct. 26. ISU closes the regular season on Nov. 30 in Ames, hosting Texas.

The NCAA Volleyball Championship First and Second Rounds will be Dec. 5-7 on campus sites, with the Regional Rounds on Dec. 13-14 also on campus sites. PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will be hosting the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Semifinals and Championship on Dec. 19 and 21.
