Huskers to Host Ducks

Nebraska will have their third straight home game, and they will face the toughest task yet, the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon won their game last week against Virginia by a score of 44-26. NU hosted Wyoming and beat them by a score of 52-17. It took the Huskers three quarters to take over, but when they did it was a fury of turnovers and good defense.

Oregon Offense

One of the most prolific offenses over the last decade, Oregon still brings that to the table this season. Oregon runs a spread offense with a lot of passing and a ton of fly sweeps. This could give the Blackshirts problems as last week, NU struggled with Wyoming’s fly sweeps. On the flip side, the Huskers have prepared for that, and Im sure they are ready for the quick passing and running game of Oregon.

Oregon’s field general will be Dakota Prukop. The senior quarterback thus far has 602 yards and six touchdowns. Prukop will wing it all over the field. Prukop though, has never faced an opposing crowd of over 25,000 fans. That will change on Saturday when he hears to roar of 90,000 plus shouting at him.

The Ducks’ running back is Royce Freeman and he is a dandy of a running back. Freeman has 294 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Darren Carrington will be one of the many weapons Prukop will have to throw the ball to. So far he has 176 yards on 11 catches.

Oregon will be able to move the ball against the Huskers, but they will need to be careful with the ball as the defense of NU has been causing a lot of turnovers.

Oregon Defense

Oregon runs a 4-3 base defense, but the struggle to stop the ball. In their first two games they are allowing 27 points per game against suspect teams.

Tyree Robinson is a player in the secondary to watch. At his safety spot he is all over the field and he will make plays in the air and the ground game. He has nine tackles so far this season.

Freshmen Troy Dye will be causing problems for the Huskers at his linebacker position. He has accumulated 17 tackles this season.

Oregon will struggle against Nebraska, but they will have a lot of speed on the field against the Huskers.

NU Offense

Nebraska showed their offensive dominance against Wyoming, at least in the fourth quarter. NU did a lot of good things through the air. Tommy Armstrong had 377 yards and three scores, but he threw one ill-advised interception. Armstrong will need to be smarter in this game as it is against a much tougher opponent.

Devine Ozigbo only had 44 yards on 15 carries. Ozigbo for the season has 147 yards this season and three scores. Ozigbo will be an x-factor on Saturday. He will need to perform at a high level.

Alonzo Moore has been the Huskers leading receiver so far. Moore has 201 yards and a pair of scores. His deep threat ability will cause problems for Oregon. Jordan Westerkamp came alive and the Huskers will need that to continue against Oregon.

NU Defense

Nebraska has been playing solid defense for the most part. They have somewhat played a bend, but don’t break defense and it hasn’t gotten them into any trouble yet, but it could against Oregon.

The Huskers will rely on the pass rush of the defensive line to make life easier. They have done a good job so far, and Ross Dzuris has 2.5 sacks.

The linebackers will have a taste dealing with Royce Freeman in both the run and pass catching out of the backfield. Each of the linebackers for NU will have a chance to meet up with the athletic Freeman at some point.

The secondary will be key in stopping the run and pass. Nate Gerry was a big lift and he will need to lead the way again. Watch for Josh Kalu on the corner blitzes as well.

This game has all the makings for a shootout as both teams have great offenses, and average defenses. I think the Huskers take this one by a score of 45-34.
