Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney junior Corbin Hansen has qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. The meet is part of the “Fall Sports Festival” and will be held at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park on Saturday, December 1. Clarion University, Slippery Rock University and SportsPITTSBURGH serve as hosts of the festival. The men’s race is set for a 10 a.m. Central start. Eight regional meets were held this past Saturday across the nation with the top three teams, and the top two individual finishers not on one of those three squads, automatically qualifying for Pittsburg (24 teams and 16 individuals).
The rest of the field was filled out on Monday using selection criteria that considered the entire season. Hansen (DeWeese) has had a great 2018 to date, finishing ninth, third, third, fourth and seventh in UNK’s three regular and two postseason meets. Those efforts allowed him to grab one of the national at-large individual spots. He’ll enter the championships as an All-MIAA and All-Central Region runner. Joining Hansen in Pennsylvania from the Central Region are Augustana, Missouri Southern State, Sioux Falls, Northwest Missouri State’s Karim Achengli and Washburn’s Jacob Klemz. The complete field is available HERE. Hansen joins Deen Johnson (1996), Luke Garringer (2004), Tanner Fruit (2009 & 2010), Al Sanabria (2010 & 2011), Andrew Fields (2016) and Jahn Landrigan (2016) as Loper men to have individual qualified for the NCAA Championships.
