OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball libero Brittany Witt has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second straight week. Witt helped the Bluejays remain in first place in the BIG EAST with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over the weekend.
Witt averaged 4.33 digs, 1.83 assists and 0.17 aces per set in the two victories, extending Creighton’s win streak to eight.
Witt had a match-high 17 digs in Friday’s win over St. John’s while adding seven assists and an ace. The Red Storm had season-lows in kills (21) and hitting percentage (.041) as Creighton was the first team this fall to sweep the Red Storm.
She then had nine digs and four assists in a 3-0 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday. Creighton earned a sideout on 38 of Seton Hall’s 44 serves, including the final 22.
Ten of Witt’s 26 digs were converted directly into kills, as were 11-of-20 serve receptions.
An Omaha Marian product, Witt leads Creighton in digs and digs per set this season while ranking second on the club in aces.
Creighton (14-6, 8-0 BIG EAST) returns to the court on Friday for a 7 pm match at third-place DePaul.
