OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball senior Lydia Dimke has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.
With the eyes of the college volleyball world focused on a top-notch event in Omaha, Dimke was named MVP of the Bluejay Invitational while helping Creighton to the title. Dimke hit .520 while averaging 9.67 assists, 2.44 digs, 1.56 kills, 1.00 blocks and 0.78 service aces per set.
The senior from Ham Lake, Minn., set the tone for the weekend with a sensational match in Friday’s 3-0 sweep over No. 13 Kentucky, finishing with 31 assists, seven digs, three aces and two blocks while directing CU to .353 hitting. Dimke had a large hand, finishing with six kills on seven swings (.857), herself.
In Saturday’s contest versus No. 18 USC, Dimke finished with 27 assists, five digs, four kills and three aces.
With the team title up for grabs on Saturday night vs. UNI, Dimke closed the weekend with 29 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the year, adding four digs, four aces and four blocks in a 3-0 sweep. The four aces tied her career-high and helped her finish with a Bluejay Invitational-leading seven for the weekend. Dimke became the first Bluejay with 4+ in each category since Melissa Weisensee on Nov. 2, 1996, and the second player in Creighton history.
Ninth-ranked Creighton (5-1) heads to Lawrence, Kan., this weekend for matches against No. 17 Purdue (6-0), Belmont (5-2) and No. 7 Kansas (7-0).
