South Orange, N.J. — Down 32-14 after one quarter, the Creighton womens basketball team rallied back within single digits in the fourth quarter before falling to Seton Hall 82-70 on Friday, Jan. 17th.

The loss dropped the Bluejays to 12-5 on the season and 4-2 in the BIG EAST, while Seton Hall moved to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Pirates came out of the gate simply red hot as Seton Hall hit 8-of-10 from the field and went 6-for-6 from long range in the opening five minutes to storm out to a 22-4 edge (4:52). Conversely the Bluejays didnt find their range from beyond the arc until the closing moments of the half as Creighton went into halftime down 48-27.

Following the break the Bluejays picked up their scoring, putting up 20 in the third, but Seton Hall remained hot from the field shooting 8-of-12 (66.7%). Despite the Pirates torrid shooting, Creighton won the frame 20-16 led by eight points in the quarter from senior Jaylyn Agnew, heading into the fourth down 64-47.

Agnew opened the fourth with her second trifecta of the game to make it 64-50 (9:39), but neither team scored again until the 6:54 mark. Trailing 70-53 with 4:18 left, the Bluejays clawed back within single digits at 78-70 with a 17-8 run over the next three minutes. Sophomore Rachael Saunders knocked down a pair of three-pointers during the run, capped by a driving jumper from Agnew with 1:23 remaining.

Creightons comeback bid simply ran out of time as Seton Hall connected on four free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

Agnew led all scorers with 22 points in the loss, also contributing eight rebounds. Saunders and fellow sophomore Payton Brotzki also finished in double figures for the Bluejays with 14 and 13 respectively.

Seton Hall had five players post double-figures, led by 18 points from Alex Lewis and 16 from Shadeen Samuels.

The Bluejays return to the court on Sunday, Jan. 19th as Creighton remains on the road to face St. Johns at 1:00 pm (CT).
