SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — The No. 14 Creighton Volleyball team remained unbeaten in the BIG EAST Conference with a 3-0 sweep at Seton Hall on Friday night.
Scores of the match were 26-24, 25-12, 25-21.
Creighton improved to 10-4 on the season and is now 3-0 in league play, while Seton Hall dropped to 7-9 and 1-2 in conference action.
After Creighton scored the first four points of the match, it was Seton Hall that took the momentum with a 9-2 run to force a Bluejay timeout. The teams had 13 ties and six lead changes in the first set, which led to some drama. Trailing 24-23, Creighton was forced to save a set point, with Marysa Wilkinson earning the clutch kill to tie it. Creighton took a 25-24 lead when Lydia Dimke and Megan Ballenger stuffed Abby Thelen, and won the set on a Seton Hall attack error.
Creighton dominated the second set to the tune of a 25-12 victory. The Bluejays hit .379 in the set, as Jaali Winters slammed seven kills to pace the offense.
The third set was also close. Taryn Kloth provided a kill to make it 15-14 and CU would lead the rest of the way. CU won the match on a solo stuff by Kloth. Wilkinson had six kills in six swings in the final frame, while Dimke had three kills in as many attempts. CU hit .385 in the last set with 18 kills.
Wilkinson led Creighton with 13 kills on .600 hitting in 20 swings. She now owns 994 kills in her quest to become the 13th Bluejay to reach 1,000 career kills. Lydia Dimke hit .571 and finished with 37 assists, six digs and five kills, while Brittany Witt paced the defense with 11 digs. Creighton hit .340 and had 44 kills, four aces, 47 digs and 7.5 blocks.
Seton Hall got 10 kills and 13 digs from Dominique Mason and Thelen recorded eight kills. Sarah Kenneweg led all players with 15 digs. Seton Hall hit .229 and finished with 40 kills, 43 digs and 2.5 blocks. The Pirates were held without an ace.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday at 4 pm Central when it plays at St. John’s.
