OMAHA, Neb. — The Creighton Volleyball team is ranked 15th in the first poll of the regular-season that was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.
The Bluejays fell two positions in the AVCA poll to 15th after a 1-2 start to the season last weekend. Creighton defeated then-No. 5 Kentucky (3-2) before dropping the last two matches of the weekend to unranked Northern Iowa and then-No. 10 USC. All three opponents are ranked in this week’s poll, with USC climbing to 7th, UNI 17th and Kentucky coming in at 16th despite an 0-3 start.
Creighton is 59-19 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 38 all-time polls, and are one of 14 clubs to be ranked in each of the last 24 editions. The Bluejays have been in every poll since Oct. 31, 2016.
Stanford remained in the top spot in the national rankings with 57 first-place votes. Texas is second with seven votes atop the poll, and Minnesota, Florida and Nebraska round out the top five.
Creighton also climbed three spots to 15th in the VolleyMob.com poll.
Creighton heads to Dallas, Texas, this weekend for the SMU DoubleTree Classic. The Bluejays will meet Arkansas State at 10 a.m. and North Carolina State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday before meeting tourney host SMU on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The event will mark Creighton’s first non-conference tournament since the 2014 Bluejay Invitational in which none of its opponents are ranked or receiving AVCA Top 25 votes.
