Omaha, Neb. — The Creighton Baseball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Seton Hall on Sunday, May 6 to drop the series to the Pirates.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 26-15 on the season and 5-9 in BIG EAST action. Seton Hall, meanwhile, rose to 23-16-1 overall and 10-2 in conference action.
All of the scoring in the game came in the third inning as Seton Hall’s Connor Hood was hit by a pitch, sacrificed to second, then scored on an RBI single from Tyler Shedler-McAvoy. Before the inning was over Al Molina blasted a two-run homer to left, giving the Pirates a 3-0 edge.
The story of the game, however, was Seton Hall starter Billy Layne. The righty carried a one-hitter into the eighth inning as he earned the win with 11 strikeouts in 8.1 frames. Pirate closer Matt Leon recorded the final two outs for his ninth save of the season.
Creighton starter Preston Church allowed all three Seton Hall runs, taking the loss (5-4) as he allowed four hits in 5.1 innings.
The Bluejays return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 8 as Creighton faces Nebraska in the third of three games with the Huskers.
