The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team fell in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 26-24) at Northwestern Tuesday evening. The Chargers are now 10-10 on the season and 3-7 in the GPAC. Northwestern improved to 14-14 on the season and 6-4 in league play with the victory.
Northwestern outhit Briar Cliff .297-.196 with 49 kills and 14 errors on 118 attacks, compared to 39 kills and 18 errors on 107 attacks for BCU. Northwestern held the advantage in assists (44-37), digs (46-45), blocks (3-2) and service aces (2-0).
Laura Barry led the Chargers earning a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs. Katelin Langelled the Charger offense with 14 kills, followed by Courtney Schafer with nine kills.Delaney Meyer helped Barry quarterback the offense notching eight assists in the match.Breanne Hankins paced the defense with 16 digs and Teerstyn Johnson earned two blocks.
Lauryn Hilger was the biggest offensive threat for the Red Raiders earning a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Jessica Doom accounted for 38 assists and Jillian Estes contributed 13 digs for Northwestern.
Briar Cliff will be back on the road on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a 5 p.m. match with the No. 15 Doane Tigers.
