The Central Community College men’s basketball team lost at Iowa Lakes Community College, 89-82, on Saturday.

The Raiders jumped out of the gate with a 10-4 run, which was quickly erased by the Lakers with a 7-0 run. The remainder of the first half was close and the Lakers had a one-point edge at the half, 38-37.

Iowa Central opened the second half with a 17-5 run in a five-minute span to take a 55-42 lead. At the 10:39 mark, the Lakers built a 16-point lead, 66-50, the biggest of the game. With just over three minutes remaining, the Raiders were trailing 82-70 when they mounted a comeback with an 11-5 run, but time ran out.

Five Raiders scored in double figures, with Kevin Cook and Caleb Muia leading the charge with 15 points each. Iowa Central won the rebounding battle, 39-27.

“Defensively and on the glass is where we got beat,” said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. “They are a tough team to keep off the offensive boards. Offensively, I thought we played well and did a better job of taking care of the ball. It’s time to regroup and get ready for second semester.”

The 8-5 Raiders are off until Friday, Jan. 7, when they venture to North Platte Community College for a 7 p.m. contest.
