Briar Cliff Volleyball welcomes in 17 Recruits

Briar Cliff Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Trevor Schirman has announced his Charger recruiting class for the upcoming 2018 season. BC welcomes in 17 new players for the season and will look to build on a 2017 season where the Cliff began 11-0 before finishing 18-9 overall and 8-8 in the GPAC.

Nine of the players in the class are from the tri-state area with eight players from Iowa and one from Nebraska. The Chargers also scooped up players from Tennessee, Illinois, Colorado, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Hawaii and California. BC opens the 2018 season next Friday at the Red Raider Classic in Orange City, Iowa, facing John Brown University at 12:30 p.m. The complete breakdown of the recruiting class can be found below.


Casandra Anderson

Accolades – Four-time letterwinner in volleyball…most improved as a freshman…defensive MVP sophomore and junior seasons.

Cassie Clark

Accolades – KCAC 2018 Scholar Athlete at Ottawa…played two years at Iowa Central with 606 digs as a sophomore to go with 21 assists and 33 service aces…was named to the 2016 Triton Invitational All-Tournament Team and was All-Team Libero as a sophomore and was also Second Team All-Region…was a two-time All-ICCAC honorable mention selection and was also twice named Second Team Academic Al-Region…two time letterwinner in volleyball at Mason City.

Accolades – 5-time letterwinner for the Knights with three in volleyball and one tennis and track each.


Olivia Eckels

East Union Community High School

Accolades – 16-time letterwinner for the Eagles with four apiece in volleyball, basketball and track, three in softball and one in drill team…voted team MVP in volleyball her junior and senior seasons…was first team all-conference as a senior and competed in the KMAland Volleyball All-Star Game…as a junior broke school records in track in the 100 hurdles and shuttle hurdles and finished ninth at the state meet in the shuttle hurdle and was part of the fourth place distance medley team.

Accolades – 3-time letterwinner in volleyball…as a senior was named honorable mention all-state, Southtown News All-Area, 22nd Century Media First Team All-Area, Southwest Suburban Blue First Team All-Conference, Plainfield North All-Tournament Team, was selected to the play in the Illinois Media All-Star Game and ended her career fourth all-time in assists at Carl Sandburg HS…was named Southtown News All-Area, 22nd Century Media First Team All-Area and Southwest Suburban Blue First Team All-Conference as a junior.
