Briar Cliff Athletic Director Nic Scandrett has announced the hiring of Corby McGlauflin as the new head baseball coach for the Chargers.
“Briar Cliff is lucky to have someone of Corby’s caliber with such strong local ties,” Scandrett said. “He has demonstrated his ability to turn a struggling program around in a short period of time, both academically and competitively. I think our current and prospective student-athletes will love Corby and his vision for the program.”
McGlauflin, a Sioux City native, recently finished his third season as the head coach for Bismarck State College in Bismarck, North Dakota. McGlauflin led the Mystics to an 84-39 record in his tenure with two conference championships while also earning NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors each year with a team GPA of better than 3.0 each season.
McGlauflin is a 2008 graduate of North High School in Sioux City and played his college ball at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance at Southwest Minnesota State and also holds a Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education Administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Bismarck State, McGlauflin spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Mary (2013-2016) as well as at the high school level in Sioux City with North High School (2009-2011) and Bishop Heelan Catholic High School (2014).
“There’s nothing better than giving back to the game close to home,” McGlauflin said. “I’m looking forward to building upon the great baseball tradition at Briar Cliff University.”
McGlauflin will be the sixth coach in program history, dating back to 1979. The Briar Cliff baseball team is 1,112-914-5 all-time for a winning percentage of .549.
