HASTINGS – The Guardian Angels Central Catholic softball team was eliminated from the Class C State Tournament on Thursday, falling 6-4 to Milford.
The Bluejays scored right away in the top of the first inning when an RBI single by Marissa Hunke drove in Brenna Rief.
Milford answered in the bottom of the second by scoring four runs, and then adding one more in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
GACC scored again in the fourth when Jenna Schinstock was brought home by a Melissa Hagedorn RBI hit.
Both teams added a run in the sixth. GACC’s came when Avery Kreikemeier scored on an RBI base hit by Aubrey Kreikemeier. The Eagles led 6-3 after six innings.
The Bluejays had one more chance in the top of the seventh. An RBI single by Schinstock scored Hunke, but that’s all GACC could drive in, and Milford won 6-4.
GACC recorded 10 hits in the game but stranded eight runners on base. The Bluejays used three pitchers in the game, with Erin Franzluebbers taking the loss, going two innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks, striking out one. Kayla Fischer and Brooke Meister pitched in relief.
Marissa Hunke had a pair of singles and an RBI, Maddie Bracht had two singles, with Jenna Schinstock, Melissa Hagedorn and Aubrey Kreikemeier each recording RBI singles.
GACC ends the season with an overall record of 24-9.
