ELWOOD- Bertrand traveled west 13 miles on Highway 23  for a rivalry contest against the Elwood Pirates. Bertrand was able to take both the girl’s and the boy’s game. The girl’s contest was decided by a final score of 55-29 in favor of the Lady Vikings and the boy’s game was taken by Bertrand 81-44.

In the girl’s game, Bertrand started strong with a 20-9 lead. Then in the second period, Bertrand extended that lead by outscoring the Lady Pirates 12-5 and at intermission, it was 32-14 in favor of the Lady Vikings. Bertrand maintained their lead in the third quarter by scoring 10 points and allowing 10 as well, and entering the fourth quarter it was 42-24. In the final quarter, Bertrand outscored Elwood 13-7 to close out the game.

Bertrand was led by 12 points from Erin Boggs. Elwood was paced by Baylee Diefenbaugh with 12 points. Bertrand moves to 3-0 and will face another rival on Saturday as they will battle the Lady Wolves of Loomis. Elwood will head to Pleasanton on Friday with their 0-2 record and try to get that first win.

In the boys game, Bertrand handled the Pirates by a final score of 81-44. In the first quarter, it was a close game as Bertrand had a 19-13 lead in the first period. In the second quarter, Bertrand opened the game up with a 25-8 period and the Vikings led 44-21 at halftime. In the third quarter, it was much of the same as Bertrand outscored Elwood 22-9 and entering the final quarter the Vikings led 66-30. In the final period, Bertrand again outscored Elwood 15-14 to close out the game.

Tyler Callahan led Bertrand with 19 points. Elwood was led by 16 points from Hank Green. Bertrand is 3-0 and will face Loomis on Saturday. Elwood falls to 0-2 and will play Pleasanton on Friday.
