(AUDIO) Zephyrs open season at home tonight

It’s opening night for the baseball season at KNEB!

The Westco Zephyrs are hosting the Cheyenne Mustangs at Cleveland Field starting at 5:30.

KNEB will have TV COVERAGE ONLY FOR TONIGHT! Pregame on KNEB.tv, Allo 15, and Mobius 1500 will start at approximately 5:15/5:20 with first pitch slated for 5:30.

Of course there’s been a lot of change with the program since the end of last season.

Long time coach, Mark Moran, and his 884 wins have stepped aside and it’s now Jeremiah Luber in charge of the program. Luber had been a assistant coach under Moran for the last couple of seasons.

The Zephyrs are coming off a 21-19 season from a year ago that included a two and out at the Area Tournament.

Luber mentioned Trent Richter, he’ll get the start on the mound tonight for the Zephyrs. Last season Richter led the team with 49 innings, he went 5-4 with 63 strikeouts and just 14 walks.

There’s not a ton of returners to the seniors team but kids like Chase Lovercheck, Graham Robbins, Paul Panduro, and Alex Gurrola all join Richter to help make up the core of the squad.

Luber will be adding around 10 kids that played for the Express Juniors last year, a team that had some success, going 27-18-1.

Also new this season at the Senior level; both assistant coaches. Roybell Baez (men’s assistant coach for WNCC basketball), who helped with the JR’s last summer and former Westco and WNCC catcher, Cooper Buckhammer will be the top two assistants for Coach Luber.

Again, TV only for tonight. KNEB.tv, Allo 15, and Mobius 1500 for coverage at right around 5:15 with first pitch at 5:30.
