(AUDIO) West Point-Beemer to hold Basketball Camps in early June

West Point-Beemer will be holding Boys and Girls Basketball Camps at the beginning of June. Assistant Girls Coach Mike Waak has the details of the Girls Camp. “Yeah the Girls Basketball Camp will be held on Tuesday, June 5th through Thursday, June 7th. The cost is $30. And it will be from 9:00-10:30 for any girls entering grades 3-5, and from 11:00-12:30 for any girls entering grades 6, 7 or 8.”

Waak says the boys camp will go longer. “The boys are going to be a little bit different. They’re actually going to go four days. So they’ll go June 4th through June 7th. So that’s Monday-Thursday. And their times are flip flopped of the Girls. So any boy entering grades 6, 7, or 8 will go from 9:00-10:30, and any boy entering grades 3, 4, or 5 will go from 11:00-12:30.”

Waak says the reason for the flip flopped times is so the older kids can be in the high school gym, and the younger kids the elementary gym.

The camps will be led by the coaching staffs and players, and are open to any area students entering 3rd through 8th grade.

Waak talks about what kids will learn. “Yeah throughout the 4 days for boys and 3 days for girls the kids will learn the fundamentals of basketball…for example correct shooting form. They’ll learn how to correctly dribble. A lot of kids you see, especially at the younger age, like to dribble with their heads down. We’ll teach them how to keep their eyes up, where to actually put the ball when they dribble. Defensive stance…kind of proper procedure for that and how that works as well as boxing out.”

Waak says activities include a 1-on-1 tournament 3-on-3 tournament, knockout, and hot shot.

Awards to be handed out are an MVP Award, Hustle Award, and Best Teammate Award.

The camp includes a t-shirt and popsicles.

Any interested girls should call Waak at 402-276-3091 or email him at

Any boys interested should email Head Boys Coach Cody Bobolz at

And as a reminder, BEST Shooting School begins on Wednesday, June 6th.
