The West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder Boys Golf Team has more kids out this year than in recent years. Head Coach Keith Eriksen. “This year we’re very fortunate, very excited. We have 13 kids, which the past couple years that I’ve been Head Coach the biggest number by far is usually at 6, 7, or 8 kids. And we are very, very excited and fortunate to have 13. We have 6 of those 13 being freshmen so the future looks bright.”
Returners include two-time state qualifier Teague Stewart and Ben VanderGriend.
West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder only has one senior out for the team this year. Eriksen says the team is young. “We have 12 of our 13 that are underclassmen, and we’re going to try to build off of our youth. And 5 guys that are two-year starters on varsity. But like I said they’re going to be pushed this year, everybody is going to have to earn their spot on varsity. And it might be a week-to-week rotation where we try a couple guys out, and come conference and districts going to be the best 5, and it’s going to be up to the kids and who wants it.”
Eriksen says he hopes some of the freshmen make a contribution right away.
West Point-Beemer/Scribner-Snyder opens up the season on Tuesday, March 27th at home. Eriksen has the details.”We start off with a 9-hole triangular with Oakland-Craig and Pender. So two conference opponents. And you always want to get the conference opponents, especially on your home course.”
