Class: C-2

Conference: East Husker

Head Coach: Zach Rosenboom

2017-2018 record: 0-20 (lost to Fort Calhoun in Sub Districts)

Returning Starters: 5

Overview:

The Tekamah-Herman Boys Basketball Team looks to make big strides this year.

The Tigers return all five starters from last year, including Clay Beaumont (6’1, F), who averaged 11 points a game last year, Connor Feiling (6’1, F), Dylan Chatt (5’7, PG), Eldridge Jensen (5’11, G), and Cole Freidel (6’1, SF).

Other returning letterwinners include Garrison Potadle (6’1, SF/F), Tyler Petersen (5’11, G), Luke Wakehouse (6’1, G), and Alex Camp (6’3, C), who Head Coach Zach Rosenboom says is much improved.

Freshman Brock Rogers (6’2, G) is expected to contribute as well.

Rosenboom. “Return a lot from a young & inexperienced team last year that was unsuccessful in terms of wins & losses.”

Rosenboom says the offseason went well. “We had quite a few kids who took advantage of the offseason and improved their game. Got bigger and stronger. We have a lot of returning guys. We lost two seniors from last year. And everybody else is back and we pick up some freshmen so things are looking good numbers wise and experience wise.”

Tekamah-Herman has dropped to Class C-2, which really only affects the Tigers in the postseason.

Rosenboom says he thinks dropping to C-2 will help Tekamah-Herman in the long run.

Season Outlook:

The Tekamah-Herman Boys look to turn things around this season.

Tekamah-Herman opens up the season at Stanton on Thursday.

Rosenboom says the Mustangs have a couple of big guys in 6’5 senior Nate Arens and 6’6 senior Sam Bates, adding their strength is to go inside.

The Tigers are in Sub-District C2-3 with Yutan, Elmwood-Murdock, and Omaha Brownell Talbot.

Rosenboom adds Yutan is preseason ranked No. 2 and Elmwood-Murdock’s Coach (Matt Shelsta) left and Best Player in Wes Dreamer transferred.

Rosenboom adds his team is looking to be improved this season. “I would say we’re looking to be a lot more competitive, looking to win some games possibly, upset some people. But we’re taking it day-by-day, really working on some fundamentals, and hopefully improving our defense and overall team chemistry.”

Team: Tekamah-Herman

Mascot: Tigers

Colors: Purple, Vegas Gold

Class: C-1

Conference: East Husker

Head Coach: David Eriksen (2nd season)

2017-2018 record: 6-17 (lost to Fort Calhoun in Sub Districts)

Returning Starters: N/A

Overview:

The Tekamah-Herman Girls Basketball Team looks to build upon last year’s 6-win season under 2nd year Head Coach David Eriksen.

Returners include Guard Anna Wakehouse (5’7, JR), and Guards Halle Olsen 5’6, SO), and Maggie Sheets (5’3, SO).

On the inside the Tigers boast Jordan Wetzel (5’10, SR F), Jadyn Fleischman (6’0, JR C), Greta Lindberg (5’9, JR F), and Jen Graef (5’8, SR F).

Senior Sydney Brummond is a newcomer out for basketball for the first time since 8th grade, according to Eriksen.

The freshmen are Elena Jetensky (5’7, Wing), Aubrynn Sheets (5’5 G), and Kaitlyn Quick (5’8 Wing).

A big loss from last year is Marin Jetensky.

The Tigers only have 12 girls out for the team this year.

Eriksen says the inside game should be a strength. “We should be having an advantage on the inside for the most part. Jadyn Fleischman, she’s a 6’0 JR. Last year was her first full season of varsity experience so she’s starting to understand the game, especially at the varsity level.”

Eriksen says Lindberg can go inside or outside for the team, adding this is probably the first year in a while the Tigers will have multiple guards who can step up, saying 5 or 6 guards have a chance to see the floor this season.

He adds scoring will be a challenge for the team.

Season Outlook:

The Tekamah-Herman Girls look to build upon last year’s season.

Eriksen says his team simply didn’t do the little things well a season ago. “Our record last year and the result last year, watching film from last year….we just beat ourselves up. Couldn’t make shots in the paint and couldn’t make free throws. And those two things are very very important when it comes to the game of basketball.”

Eriksen says things have gone well in the preseason. “Thus far we have a lot of good things going for us right now. Went back to watch a lot of film from last year, and our glaring weakness was a lot of fundamentals. I felt like we were beating ourself for the most part.”

Eriksen says the team has been focusing on getting better at fundamentals and controlling things they can this year.

The Tigers open up the season on Thursday at Stanton.

Eriksen says Stanton will have a lot of athletic girls and has a good athletic culture.

Tekamah-Herman is in Sub-District C1-6 with the likes of West Point-Beemer, North Bend Central, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, and Arlington.
