Colors: Red and White
Head Coach: Anthony Ruzicka (7th season) (19-31 career record)
2016 record: 1-7
Returning Starters: 3 offense 5 defense
The Scribner-Snyder Football Team returns 3 offensive and 5 defensive starters from last year’s 1-7 team. Head Coach Anthony Ruzicka tells KTIC Sports who the starting quarterback and fullback will be. “Quarterback we’re going to try Austin Peters. He started at tight end for us last year. He’s a Junior. Very football smart. Good athlete. Has improved his running form very much. And he’ll do well there. And Sebastian Arnold will step in at fullback. Probably will do a very large portion of the ball carrying for us I would think. He’s about 190 pounds. And runs well. He’s a hard runner. Goes downhill, nothing fancy. And he likes to hit and likes contact.”
Ruzicka adds the Trojans have some size. “Strengths as far as offense we’re going to be very big across the front line. If we played tonight from end to end we would be 265, 300-315 somewhere in there, 300 at the center, 180 at the guard, and 195 at the other tight end.”
Ruzicka says the linemen are big and athletic too, not just big.
15 kids are out for the team this year, and Ruzicka says 9-10 kids will be relied upon to play most of the time.
There are 4 freshmen and a sophomore out for the team.
He adds his squad won’t have a lot of speed.
Scribner-Snyder gets their season started on Friday at Mead. Ruzicka says the Raiders will be short on numbers and young for the most part. “Looking at what they return…I know they’re going to be a little shorter on numbers again. I mean they had a really good senior class last year. They graduated a boatload of production. But I know Quinn, very very good player, gave us a lot of fits on running some of the jet sweep type stuff. He’s fast, he’s got good vision, he’s a good athlete, he’s going to be tough. But they’re going to have to rely on a lot of the younger kids I think, and yeah on paper it looks like it should be a good game, and I think we’ll be competitive with them. And so hopefully it’s one we can get back this year.”
Mead shutout Scribner-Snyder 63-0 in Scribner last year.
