Hastings – York bats were quiet as Hastings dominated in Tuesday’s game.
Fresh off a comeback win the night before, the York Dukes Varsity softball squad looked to keep the winning alive, that however was not the case as Hastings won 8-0 in six innings.
Hastings came into the game 2-5, but perhaps having the toughest schedule in class B. York knew their foe was better than their record showed. Hastings proved them right.
Enter Elle Douglas. She was in command the entire night and held the York batters to just two hits while striking out eight and walked zero.
After a two out single in the first off the bat of Douglas pitching opponent Hannah Norquist, Douglas got the next batter to pop out to end the inning. Little did anyone know that would be York’s only hit until the sixth inning.
The Hasting Tigers gave Douglas plenty of support on offense as they scored every inning. The Tigers had three home runs in the game.
In the third inning, Hastings Designated Player Kaelan Schultz took a 2-0 pitch deep to centerfield for the first of her two homers in the night. Both solo shots.
Hastings Faith Molina had a dinger herself in the fifth, also a solo shot.
As York’s Norquist did have her struggles pitching, she managed to one small shimmer of light as she fanned 7 in 6 innings of work.
She gave up 8 hits, 8 runs, walked four and hit a batter in the loss.
The game ended when Schultz led off the sixth inning and took Norquist’s pitch deep to center for a walk-off home run, her second, giving the Tigers the 8 run rule win.
York moves on to Play Aurora Thursday night and Hastings will play North Platte Thursday also.
