Gering High School today announced the hiring of Josh Hiatt as their brand new head football coach. Hiatt has been an assistant coach at North Platte High School for the last nine years, eight of which he’s served as defensive coordinator.
I caught up with Coach Hiatt this morning and here’s what he had to say about becoming the new head coach for the Gering Bulldogs.
Here is the official press release from Gering High School announcing the hiring of Josh Hiatt as their new head football coach.
Mr. Hiatt brings a great amount of experience and enthusiasm to the Gering program. Most recently he served as the defensive coordinator for the North Platte Bulldogs. He has been in that position for previous eight years. Mr. Hiatt also directed the summer strength program at North Platte the past three years. Previous to being the defensive coordinator at North Platte he was the defensive coordinator at Sutherland High School. Mr. Hiatt has also coached soccer and basketball.
“The opportunity to build something great and provide new experiences for young athletes is something that peaks my interest,” Hiatt said. “I love the idea of working to build something the school and the community can be proud of and develop a competitive mentality among the students.”
Mr. Hiatt has also been instrumental in establishing an FCA Huddle group in North Platte. He has been the huddle leader there since 2015.
“Through this entire process, it allowed me as part of the committee to talk to a number of great individuals,” Glen Koski, GHS Athletic Director said. “Some of the characteristics we were looking for outside of the X’s and O’s along with the X’s and O’s kept bringing us back to Josh.”
Mr. Hiatt is married to Lindy and have three children they will be bringing with them to Gering.
